Point Park
The Confederates abandoned the top of Lookout Mountain without a fight after their defeat down at the Craven House. Even so, everyone who was anyone ran up to the top of the mountain to get their picture taken after the battle. The line of people traveling up the mountain was so long that someone bought the property and built a park and charged admission. There was also a vertical railroad constructed to move them up and down more quickly. Later the National Parks Service took over the park.
This page is just pictures because nothing actually happened up here except the taking of pictures.

The actual battle transpired down at the monument center right. As you can see most of the battlefield was in defilade to the cannon on the peak.
All of the following views show that the hill side was to steep for the artillery to intervene in the battle bellow, while the point looked like a great military position it was in reality useless.
