Gen. John Pope vs. Gen. Stonewall Jackson

Union Order of Battle

Confederate Order of Battle

Union General John Pope attacked a superior Confederate force led by General Stonewall Jackson at Cedar Mountain. This was still early in the war, later superior Union forces would think twice about attacking at all if they knew Jackson was anywhere on the field.  After some initial Union success Confederate reinforcements under A.P. Hill and the Union was driven from the field.
